A particularly stylish pair of Boxford table lamps by Jan des Bouvrie, executed in a fully black, clean geometric form. The lamps are clearly designed as true interior objects: even when not lit, they have a strong architectural appearance due to their bold rectangular shades and cube-shaped bases. The design is typical of the minimalist style that Jan des Bouvrie became known for. Superfluous details are absent and the emphasis is entirely on form, proportion and contrast. The combination of the large rectangular lamp shades with the compact square base results in a balanced yet striking silhouette. Design and appearance The Boxford lamps are almost entirely finished in deep black. This gives both the bases and the rectangular shades a calm and luxurious look. A short metal connector sits between base and shade, creating a subtle contrast with the black design. A nice detail is the original logo on the top, through which the origin of the lamps is recognizable. As a pair, these lamps come into their own particularly well. Placed side by side on a wide sideboard or a long console table, they create a strong symmetrical composition. They are also very suitable to be placed on either side of a bed, sofa or another piece of furniture. Atmospheric lighting When the lamps are switched on, their character changes significantly. The warm light emanates from beneath the black shades and spreads around the base and onto the wall behind. In the photos you can clearly see how warm, fan-shaped light patterns are created on the wall. The contrast between the black geometric shapes and the warm light creates a cozy effect. The lamp shades largely shield the light source, making the lamps particularly suitable as mood and accent lighting. They can, for example, beautifully illuminate a dark corner, a sideboard or a wall, giving more depth and warmth. Condition The two lamps are in a nice and well-cared-for used condition and present very well as a set. Both specimens are photographed both off and working. These are used design objects. Small signs of use or aging may be present. Please view all photos carefully; they form an important and integral part of the description and give a good impression of the current state. Features * Designer: Jan des Bouvrie * Model/line: Boxford * Object: table lamps / mood lamps * Quantity: 2 pieces * Sale: exclusively as a set * Color: black * Style: modern, minimalist and geometric * Large rectangular black lamp shades * Square/cube-shaped bases * Metal connector between base and shade * Original logo on the top * Both lamps photographed as working * Beautiful warm light distribution * Very decorative, both when lit and unlit A strong set for the interior What makes this set especially attractive is the combination of simplicity and presence. The lamps do not need extravagant ornaments to stand out. The bold square forms, dark finish and balanced proportions contribute to their character. As a set, it also creates a beautiful symmetry. On a black or dark sideboard, the bases seem to almost merge with the furniture, while the large shades above remain two separate geometric volumes. Against a light wall, a strong graphic contrast is created. The lamps fit perfectly within a modern, minimalist, hotel-chic or contemporary interior, but can also form an interesting contrast in a more classically furnished space. A wonderful opportunity for lovers of Dutch design and the work of Jan des Bouvrie to immediately add a pair of Boxford table lamps that match to their interior.
