Millions of years of fossilization — An exceptional piece of natural history transformed into a timeless design object. This large bowl, or catchall, has been masterfully carved from a section of a fossilized conifer trunk from Madagascar, a origin renowned for the incredible quality and coloration of its petrified woods. The inside of the bowl has been mirror-polished, a process that extraordinarily enhances the complex beauty of the material. The annual growth rings of the ancient tree can be clearly admired, silent witnesses to eras long past. The color tones are rich and variegated, ranging from deep brown to black, with cream-colored inclusions and bold reddish veins due to the presence of iron oxides during fossilization. In striking contrast with the smooth, reflective inner surface, the outer edge has been left natural. This finish preserves the original texture of the bark, allowing tactile appreciation of the rough, organic structure of the wood as it appeared millions of years ago. This dualism between workmanship and raw nature makes the object especially fascinating. The petrification process is a geological wonder. Over millions of years, the organic molecules of the wood were slowly replaced by minerals, primarily silica, impeccably preserving the tree's cellular structure. This specimen is a three-dimensional photograph of the botanical life of the Triassic period, about 200 million years ago. With its generous dimensions and substantial weight, this piece is not just a functional object, but a true decorative element, capable of drawing attention and becoming the centerpiece of any space. It’s ideal as a centerpiece, a display piece in a bookshelf, or in a wunderkammer, combining the allure of paleontology with the elegance of sculpture.
