Japan – Meiji period – Yasunosuke (安の介), Jizai Okimono of a turtle. Japanese Jizai Okimono in the form of a turtle, made in bronze/metal and bearing the signature 安の介 (Yasunosuke) on the shell. The object is composed of several separate, movable parts. The head, four legs and tail can be adjusted, allowing the turtle to be placed in different poses. This technically refined construction is characteristic of the Japanese Jizai Okimono: realistically rendered metal animals whose individual body parts are movable. The turtle is depicted in detail with a modeled shell, scaly legs, head and tail. The dark, brownish patina and signs of wear give the object a characteristic appearance that suits an older Japanese metal art object. In Japan, the turtle has a positive symbolic meaning and traditionally stands for long life, durability and luck. Dimensions: length 7 cm, width 5 cm, height 3 cm. Condition: signs of age and patina; some signs of wear appropriate to the age. The movable parts function. Shipping: The lot is carefully packed and insured shipped.
