Bruno Fert (1971) - Chez Nael, Katrin et Maran. Camp de Katsikas. Grèce. 2016

REFUGE Bruno FERT (Born in 1971) At Nael, Katrin and Maran. Katsikas Camp. Greece. 2016 Fine Art print on Hahnemühle Ultrasmooth paper, title and date inscribed, signed in pencil in the margin 32 x 25.5 cm (40 x 50 cm) These images narrate what exile and migration are. These interiors redraw the mental universe of those who are on the road: their traditions, their aspirations, their personalities. They are no longer simply migrants, but merchants, a young adult barely out of childhood, or a mystic artist. In front of the photographer’s lens, the “migrants” or “refugees” – generic terms that make us lose sight of their identity – are no longer silhouettes walking in the mud among the tents, but faces that look back at us... Most of all, these shots express the astonishing capacity of humans, whether nomadic or sedentary, to inhabit the place where they live, even for a short time, even a hut or a tent. from Calais. Bruno Fert — Documentary photographer Bruno Fert develops a deeply humanist body of work devoted to exile, migrations and traversed territories. From vanished Palestinian villages to the precarious refuges of migrants, he photographs less the event than its traces. With Passages, he continues this work on the roads of exile, revealing in the landscapes the marks left by those who attempt to reach Europe. A precise and silent photography, where the landscape becomes a bearer of memory.
