A timepiece customized by Bulova to withstand the conditions of lunar space, it carried out its duty by giving the mission crew the exact passage of time, ensuring that no one ran out of oxygen, water, or battery power in the portable life-support system backpack. The watch was also used as a backup to the onboard timers during the critical phase of re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.
