A Burmese Temple Dha sword, having a long, slightly curved, single-edged blade with elaborate incised decoration, including floral, foliate, and figural motifs. The blade is fitted with an ornately decorated cylindrical hilt terminating in a bulbous pommel, the surfaces extensively worked with scrolling foliage and other decorative motifs. The sword is accompanied by its matching scabbard, similarly decorated throughout with elaborate incised ornament and fitted with metal mounts. From a Little Neck, NY estate. Dimensions: sword with scabbard measures approx. 46.50" in length. Condition: Commensurate with age and use. The blade displays areas of oxidation, discoloration, surface wear, and scattered losses to the original finish and decoration. The incised decoration remains visible throughout, although somewhat worn in areas. The hilt and bulbous pommel exhibit surface wear, rubbing, and areas of tarnish consistent with age. The scabbard shows general handling wear, surface oxidation, rubbing, and areas of discoloration to the decoration. The metal mounts exhibit wear and tarnishing. Note this is a ceremonial sword and does not have an edge.
