The pendant is richly decorated with 10 gemstones, comprising two pearlspositioned at the upper suspension and eight coloured gemstones, apparently rubies and emeralds, arranged around the main medallion. A remarkable combination of Byzantine Christian iconography, gold craftsmanship and precious gemstones, reflecting the religious and social significance of high-status devotional jewellery.
