Caithness & Wedgwood Glass Paperweights – Abstract Wave & Lilliput Apple Period: c. 1970s–1990s Country of origin: United Kingdom Material: Art glass Manufacturers: Caithness Glass and Wedgwood Glass, King's Lynn Type: Studio/art glass paperweights Quantity: 2 Description A charming pair of British art glass paperweights comprising one Caithness Glass paperweight and one Wedgwood Glass paperweight. 1. Caithness Glass – Abstract Wave Paperweight A small, rounded Caithness Glass paperweight in shades of deep blue, lilac and clear glass, containing an attractive abstract wave-like design within the body of the glass. The flowing internal decoration creates a sense of movement and gives the piece considerable visual depth when viewed from different angles. The glass has the characteristic substantial, highly polished finish associated with Caithness paperweights. The underside carries an etched/engraved Caithness mark. 2. Wedgwood Glass – Lilliput Apple A small clear glass apple-shaped paperweight from the Wedgwood Glass Lilliput range associated with the King's Lynn factory. The piece has a simple, highly polished form with an applied glass stem at the top. The minimalist design is typical of the small Wedgwood paperweights produced at King's Lynn during the latter part of the 20th century. The Wedgewood mark is engraved on the base The Lilliput range included a number of small animal and botanical forms and was associated with designers including Ronald Stennett-Willson and Paul Miller. Condition Both pieces are in good vintage condition, with attractive original polished surfaces. There may be very minor signs of age and handling consistent with previously owned vintage glass. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Dimensions Caithness wave paperweight: approximately 5 cm in diameter Wedgwood Lilliput apple: approximately 5 cm in diameter Summary An appealing pair of collectible British art glass paperweights from two important names in British glassmaking: Caithness Glass and Wedgwood Glass of King's Lynn. The contrasting designs — the colourful, dynamic internal wave of the Caithness piece and the simple sculptural form of the Wedgwood apple — make an attractive display pairing for a collector of British 20th-century art glass.
