Calabash Gourd - Bakongo - DR Congo (No reserve price)

This sale offers a set of works from the studio of a Belgian painter, gathered over time according to his discoveries, encounters and affinities. The artists have often maintained a privileged connection with the arts of the primitive: sensitive to the strength of forms, to the simplicity of volumes and to the expressiveness of materials, they were among the first to look at these objects differently from mere curiosities. Their eye, naturally attentive to lines and balances, led them to collect these works and, sometimes, to draw inspiration from them. This collection thus bears witness to an intimate dialogue between artistic creation, the collector’s gaze and the fascination for forms coming from elsewhere.
