All auctions / Coins & Banknotes / Caleppio - Ajmone Giuseppe - Paperweight - La Spirale - .800 silver

This is a circular paperweight with a diameter of 6 cm, made for the company Caleppio. The object's peculiarity lies in the collaboration with the artist Giuseppe Ajmone (1923–2005), an Italian painter and engraver, exponent of existential realism and very active in the Milanese art scene. • Materials: As indicated by the certificate and the stamps, it is made of 800 silver (the top with the relief) and brass (the base and the supporting structure). The overall weight of the paperweight is 400 g. The silver part is only superficial, but I don't know how many grams it may be. • Subject: The silver relief features an informal/abstract style typical of Ajmone's mature period, with moving and organic surfaces that play with the reflections of light. • Marks: On the back there is the logo "Caleppio", a company known in the 1960s and '70s for the production of design objects and corporate gifts. On the front, at the bottom, one can see the silver hallmark (800).
