Wonderful color lithograph by the French post-Cubist artist Camille Hilaire, depicting two circus characters. Limited edition of 80 prints, this one numbered 33/80. Title: “Écuyère et clown blanc” Artist: Camille Hilaire (1916-2004) Technique: Color lithographs Style: Post-Cubism Signature: Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist Format: 52x74 cm Condition: fairly good; there are slight creases visible on the margins Printed by the famous Fernand Mourlot workshop, it is part of a prestigious illustrated portfolio that bears witness to the evolution of printmaking techniques in the 20th century Camille Hilaire (1916-2004) was a French artist born in Metz, recognized as a major painter influenced by Cubism and Post-Impressionism. To avoid forced conscription during the Occupation, he studied clandestinely at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the pseudonym Leblanc. A multifaceted creator, he expresses his talent through painting, lithography, stained glass, mosaic, and tapestry. He later shares his expertise by becoming a professor of art in Nancy and then at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
