Camille Rousseau (1949) - Les élégantes à la plage ~...

Camille Rousseau (1949) – The Elegant Ladies at the Beach – Hardelot-Plage Atmospheric and particularly decorative seascape by French painter Camille Rousseau (1949), executed in oil on wooden panel. The painting shows a lively scene on the beach of Hardelot-Plage, the well-known French seaside resort on the Opal Coast. Scattered across the wide sandy beach, elegantly dressed beachgoers enjoy a day by the sea. Ladies in long dresses and hats sit together under parasols, while other figures walk along the shoreline. In the distance, a few sailing boats are visible. The pale blue sky with light cloud formations and the calm sea form a beautiful contrast with the warm sand tones. Dark parasols and silhouettes alternate with vivid accents in red, blue, yellow and white, giving the scene a pleasant dynamism. Rousseau uses a loose, impressionistic brushwork, with clearly visible brushstrokes and locally thickened paint. The figures are rendered with a few decisive strokes, so that atmosphere, light and movement come to the fore. The scene exudes the nostalgic ambiance of the mondaine beach life along the French coast. The work is signed lower left with "Rousseau" and bears a studio stamp on the back. A certificate is also supplied with the painting. Overall presented in an ornately decorated gold-colored frame, which nicely suits the classical French character of the scene.
