The Campo del Cielo meteorite is a famous iron meteorite, composed of iron and nickel, that fell in Argentina about 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. It left a large strewn field with many craters, and more than 100 tons of fragments have already been found. The strewn field lies in Argentina, about 1,000 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, on the border between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero. Approximately 4,200 to 4,700 years ago, the meteorite from space struck in a dry plain. There are over 20 impact craters; the largest crater measures about 115 by 91 meters.
