Canada - Flag - Canadian Red Ensign Flag with Canadian Coat of Arms

This Canadian Red Ensign is a distinctive Canadian flag type with a striking maritime and historical background. The flag has a red field with the Union Jack in the upper left corner and the Canadian coat of arms at the hoist side. The coat of arms shows the symbols of the various historical Canadian provinces, beneath which are the characteristic maple leaves, the national symbol of Canada. The Canadian Red Ensign was used from the early 20th century as an important Canadian trading and shipping flag. Although the flag was not an official national flag, it was frequently flown by Canadian merchant ships and for a long time was a recognizable symbol of Canada at sea. The version with the Canadian coat of arms evolved over the years, making older specimens interesting for collectors of Canadiana, maritime history, and historical flags. dimension 156x92 cm
