Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica...

An exceptional German pressing of Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band's Trout Mask Replica, issued as a double LP on Reprise Records under catalogue number K 64026. This is the German 1975 reissue, and the defining collector feature of this particular copy is the presence of STRAWBERRY mastering identification in the runout grooves on all four sides—a marking that reveals crucial production history. Strawberry was a British mastering and cutting facility, and the appearance of STRAWBERRY across Side A, B, C and D demonstrates that this German edition was produced from UK-cut lacquers rather than a separate local German pressing. German K 64026 copies bearing Strawberry runouts are documented in pressing discographies, including examples marked K 64026 A1 STRAWBERRY / B1 STRAWBERRY UK. This variant represents a meaningful distinction for collectors tracking the complex reissue history of this landmark work. Originally released in 1969 and produced by Frank Zappa, Trout Mask Replica stands as one of the most celebrated and uncompromising records of the late 1960s. Beefheart and the Magic Band fuse blues, free jazz, avant-garde composition and wildly unconventional rhythmic structures into an album unlike almost anything else from the period. The sprawling double features "Frownland," "Dachau Blues," "Ella Guru," "Moonlight on Vermont," "Pachuco Cadaver," "Veteran's Day Poppy" and "When Big Joan Sets Up." ⸻ Sleeve (EX): The original gatefold sleeve remains in excellent condition—very solid, clean and attractive with only minimal signs of age and handling. The presentation is strong throughout. Disc 1 (NM): Superb Near Mint vinyl displaying a beautiful deep original gloss with extremely little evidence of previous play or handling. A truly impressive example. Disc 2 (NM): Equally impressive, with exceptionally clean surfaces and only the slightest possible signs of handling. A beautiful pair of records. ⸻ Details * German 1975 Reprise reissue * Catalogue: K 64026 * Double LP * STRAWBERRY mastering on all four sides * UK-cut lacquers * Original gatefold sleeve * GEMA / BIEM
