All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Carlo Maratta (1625–1713), Ambito di - Ecce Homo

Important oil painting on canvas depicting the Ecce Homo, a subject derived from a composition by Carlo Maratta (1625-1713). The work shows characteristics compatible with an ancient realization, datable to the 17th century, as highlighted by the canvas, the structure of the support, and the execution technique. On the back there is a historical label that reports the reference to the Galleria Privata Marchesa Buoncompagni of Rome, with attribution to Carlo Maratta and authentication by Prof. Barioli. According to specialist assessments already carried out, the painting would be an original of the Seicento, executed as a copy by the master or by a workshop from a famous Marattian model. It is therefore not sold as an autograph work by Carlo Maratta, but as an antique painting attributable to his circle or to the tradition of the copyists of the period. The frame visible in the photo is included as a courtesy and does not constitute an integral part of the work. Any damage to the frame will not be valid grounds for claims or order cancellations. Measurement with frame: width 60 cm, height 88 cm. Without frame: height 66 cm and width 42 cm.
