Carlo Moretti - Vase - Rare vase

Opaline glass vase, double-wonded (or cased glass), designed by the renowned glass master Carlo Moretti (1934-2008) in Murano (Italy) during the 1970s. This piece features a sculptural silhouette often described as a “double bulb” or a stylized gourd, topped with an elegant flared neck. Its bright red color and white lining create a striking luminous contrast, typical of the most sought-after creations of the Pop Art era and Space Age design. This vase fully embodies the late Mid-Century Modern movement, the Pop Art style, and the Space Age spirit of the 1970s. The combination of its geometric, curved forms with the boldness of this primary red is emblematic of that creative decade. It can fit into many interiors: • Vintage Interior & 70s: Placed on a teak sideboard or a Scandinavian piece, it adds the indispensable Pop color touch. • Contemporary & Minimalist Design: Used alone as a sculptural object (accent piece), its vivid red instantly enlivens a white, black, or concrete gray-toned space. Founded in 1958 by brothers Carlo and Giovanni Moretti, Carlo Moretti is one of the few Murano glassworks to have embraced contemporary design from the start. By combining the ancestral know-how of master glassmakers with the minimalist, modernist, and pop aesthetics of the 1960s/1970s, the brand became an international reference, today exhibited in the world’s leading decorative art museums. - Detailed description: - Designer / Manufacturer: Carlo Moretti (Murano, Italy). Born on the island of Murano into a family of glass entrepreneurs, Carlo Moretti initially pursued a legal career and enrolled in law school. However, quickly driven back to his passion for art and the craft of his homeland, he returned to working with glass. In 1958, he co-founded the eponymous workshop [Carlo Moretti] with his younger brother Giovanni. Within the duo, Carlo became the artistic director and visionary designer, while Giovanni handled commercial development. Dubbed the “franchise of originals” (Fabbrica di originali), the Carlo Moretti house immediately distinguished itself from traditional Venetian glassworks with its boldness. Carlo Moretti was among the first to apply the codes of modernist, minimalist, and contemporary art design to the ancient art of blown glass. A great traveler and art enthusiast, he drew inspiration from global cultures to design objects with clean, geometric lines, enhanced by vivid color contrasts and unique material interplay (notably the work with frosted glass and opaline interiors). His revolutionary work earned numerous international awards, beginning with the famous Gold Medal in Munich in 1966. After Carlo’s sudden death in 2008, followed by his brother in 2014, the workshop entered history. Today, Carlo Moretti’s original creations are highly sought collectible pieces, exhibited in more than 23 decorative arts museums around the world (including New York, Paris, London, and Berlin). - Period: Circa 1970 (Vintage / Pop Art Period). - Technique: Mouth-blown glass with opaline casing technique (Cased Opaline): a bright red outer layer and an inner pure white opaline layer ensuring perfect opacity and a superb light refraction. - Dimensions & Weight: • Height: 13 cm • Neck diameter: 4.5 cm • Width: 6.0 cm at the middle bulb and 7 cm at the lower bulb • Weight: 200 g (lightness and finesse characteristic of high-end Murano blowing). - Signature: EXCEPTIONAL AUTHENTICATION (Collector’s Asset) This vase carries a rare and highly sought-after premium: its original period label.
