In the background, the silhouette of a city is faintly visible (possible reminiscence of the Venetian Lagoon) under a cloudy, atmospheric sky in evening or morning light. Artist: Carol Spree (actually Karl Becker, born May 29, 1907 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, date of death unknown). He used the pseudonym “Spree” as an artist after his mother's birth name. Signed lower left with “C. Spree”. Origin country: Germany Year of appearance / Creation: approx. 1950s to 1970s (second half of the 20th century). Period: Post-war modern / Mid-Century. Style: Figurative landscape and marine painting with impressionist influence and spatula-style paint application. Technique: Oil on canvas (stretched on canvas “Viktoria” in spatula and impasto style). Dimensions: Height 50 cm, Width 100 cm. Condition: Very good, age-appropriate preserved condition.
