Carstens - Tönnieshof

This floor vase was made between 1962 and 1964 by Gerda Heuckeroth for Carstens Keramik in Tönnieshof. It concerns a rare example from series 2 “Europa”, part of the Atelier series. Rare, because from Europa Series 2 (recognizable by the model number “E-2”) only a few pieces were made. Later this line was continued in Europa Series 3 (1967) and Europa Series 4 (1968). Model: E-2-50, height 51 cm, body diameter 20 cm. Atelier series: Europa-series 2. Decor: organic abstract relief decor in light gray and anthracite. Designer: Gerda Heukeroth. This model is included in Carstens’ 1968 catalog, under Europa-series 3 and in 'Der «Fat Lava Stil», the reference work by M.P. Thomas from 2018, under Europa-series 2. Later designs by Dieter Peter (for Carstens) and A. Seide (for Scheurich) were inspired by the decor of this vase. Very good vintage condition, without chips and without cracks. The vase shows a small restoration at the base, against the rim. This is not clearly visible to the naked eye, hence a detail photo has been taken (see image).
