All auctions / Medals, Arms & Armour / Casket - hand-carved artisanal wood - Secret Masonic Chest
Refined walnut wood box, entirely hand-carved, dating from around 1920. Purchased at a medieval market in Florence, Tuscany. The lid is decorated with two male faces in relief, facing toward the central medallion with the Square and Compasses and the letter G. The composition may represent two Lodge brothers symbolically gathered around the Masonic emblem. In Masonic symbolism, the Square represents moral rectitude, the Compasses recall balance, measure and spiritual discipline, while the letter G is traditionally associated with Geometry and the Great Architect of the Universe. The front features two evocative grotesques carved, arranged symmetrically at the sides of the lock and interpretable as symbols of protection and guardianship. The entire surface is enriched with incised geometric motifs, carved frames, shaped feet and a natural dark patina that enhances the depth of the decorations. Interesting antique object, ideal for collectors of Masonic objects, esoteric symbolism, antiques and decorative arts. Conditions Excellent overall condition, with a perfectly solid structure, well-preserved carvings and original patina. Normal signs of wear. Not supplied with a key although a lock is present. Dimensions Height: 13 cm Length: 18 cm Depth: 13 cm We ship this precious lot via a trackable priority courier at all times. Your satisfaction is our pride; with professional and carefully protected packaging, we guarantee that each object arrives promptly and in perfect condition.
