Refined cameo hand-cut on a Cassis Madagascariensis shell, depicting Poseidon, lord of the seas, set against the profile of Medusa, one of the most enigmatic figures of Greek mythology. The work evokes the deep mythical bond between Poseidon and Medusa. According to tradition, Medusa was originally a splendid priestess of Athena; her encounter with Poseidon in the goddess's temple gave rise to events that led to the girl's transformation into the Gorgon. The subject thus takes on a strong allegorical value, juxtaposing the impetuous force of the sea with the mysterious power of Medusa, symbol of transformation, fate and protection. Piece created by master engraver V.Langella, belonging to the artistic tradition of Torre del Greco cameos, capital of cameo craftsmanship. Weight 13.24gr Measurements of the cameo 61.6mm (height) x 47.7mm (width) Will be shipped with gift packaging and materials warranty.
