Caza & Max - 2 Offset Print - La Cité des Robots + Cumbres Borrascosas - 1989

EUROPEAN SCI-FI & GOTHIC GRAPHIC MASTERS — 2-Piece Vintage Art Poster Diptych (1987–1989) — Philippe Caza & MAX Lot Title / Headline: Philippe Caza ("La Cité des Robots", 60x80 cm) & MAX ("Cumbres Borrascosas", 48x68 cm) – 2-Piece Vintage European Graphic Master Diptych – Sci-Fi & Neo-Gothic (1987–1989) – VG / VG+ Description: A scarce, highly atmospheric two-piece graphic art diptych bringing together two influential figures of European comic art and illustration: French sci-fi and Métal Hurlant master Philippe Caza, alongside Spanish underground and Ligne Claire pioneer MAX (Francesc Capdevila). This pairing unites two distinct narrative worlds: monumental dystopian science fiction (Isaac Asimov) and dark, literary Neo-Gothic fantasy (Emily Brontë): • The Two Included Masterworks: Philippe Caza (Philippe Cazaumayou, b. 1941) – "La Cité des Robots" (1989) Published by Souris Verte / Éditions J'ai Lu, printed in Belgium. Large-format vintage art print (60 x 80 cm) reproducing Caza's cover artwork for Isaac Asimov's "Robot City" (La Cité des Robots). Illustrates a winged biomechanical entity descending the side of an immense skyscraper during a stormy night over a futuristic cityscape, carrying an unconscious woman. Features the printed signature "CAZA 89" within the image area, the green "Souris Verte" publisher emblem in the bottom margin, and the official licensing credits below. MAX (Francesc Capdevila, b. 1956) – "Cumbres Borrascosas" / "Sombras sin Nombre" (1987) Published by Ediciones Estampa (Madrid). Dimensions: 48 x 68 cm. A Neo-Gothic composition executed in Max's hallmark Clear Line style, inspired by Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights (Cumbres Borrascosas). A cloaked figure walks down stone terrace steps flanked by shrouded statues and thorny brambles beneath a deep twilight sky. Lower margin bears the printed text: "- CUMBRES BORRASCOSAS - COPYRIGHT 1987 MAX SOMBRAS SIN NOMBRE". • Printing & Paper Quality: Both pieces are authentic period offset lithographs printed on heavy art paper, preserving rich color saturation and strong ink contrast. Condition Report: • Authentic late-1980s printings with vibrant, unfaded inks: Philippe Caza (VG): The central image and color fields are crisp and vivid. The outer right white margin shows a small edge tear and minor handling ripples consistent with its large 60x80 cm sheet size. Frames cleanly behind a standard mat or passe-partout. MAX (VG+): Well-preserved overall with clean borders, solid corners, and minimal edge wear from archival storage.
