Celtic Bow Fibula with Spiral Decoration

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. A finely decorated Celtic bronze fibula of the European Iron Age. The brooch has a prominently arched, leaf-shaped bow adorned with engraved longitudinal bands, spirals and ring-and-dot motifs. The elongated catchplate is similarly decorated and terminates in a rounded knob. The spring and long pin are preserved, clearly illustrating the fibula’s original construction. -> Such brooches functioned in much the same way as modern safety pins and were used to fasten garments at the shoulder or chest. More elaborate examples also acted as visible personal ornaments and may have expressed the wearer’s regional identity or social position. Size: ± 64,9 mm Condition: Good condition, complete with spring and pin. Surface irregularities and signs of wear consistent with age and use. Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
