A beautiful and rare antique box in the iconic Egyptian Revival style, dating from the late 19th century (Victorian era, ca. 1870-1890). This unique object is originally the central box of an exclusive antique ink set (desk inkstand). Lid: Beautifully decorated with a detailed, seated Sphinx, Feet/Handles: The box rests on characteristic claw feet that gracefully blend into winged figures (harpies/sphinxes) on the sides. Style: Egyptian Revival – a movement that was incredibly popular at the time after archaeological discoveries in Egypt. The box is in a beautiful, authentic antique condition with a wonderful patina.
