We present to you an oil on canvas depicting a lively street of a Flemish beguinage by César Geerinck (1862–1919). This scene shows a cobbled alley lined with traditional houses with light façades and red-tiled roofs, animated by several figures. Signed “César Geerinck” is visible at the bottom right. César Geerinck is a Belgian painter active at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. He is notably known for his village scenes, landscapes and representations of traditional Flemish architectures. His work is characterized by careful observation, visible brushwork and a luminous palette. He belongs to the tradition of genre painting and Belgian landscape painting.
