Chalice - Vermeil, .950 silver - Chalice in Solid Silver (

Important Solid Silver Chalice with Vermeil – Pure Art Deco / Neo-Gothic Style – French Goldsmith – Early 20th Century Magnificent mass-produced church chalice in solid silver (the interior of the cup in vermeil gold), a masterwork of French sacred metalwork from the early 20th century. This piece is distinguished by a line of rare elegance, at the crossroads of the Neo-Gothic revival and the modern geometry of the Art Deco period. The Cup and the False-Cup: The flared cup in silver is set within a delicately cut false-cup in circular arcs. It is relief-ornamented with stalks of wheat and stylized leaves rising against a finely grained background. The interior of the cup features its original gold vermeil, radiant. The Knot and the Stem: The cylindrical stem is rhythmically pierced at the center by a flat knot (melon-shaped) richly chiselled with geometric floral motifs inscribed in diamonds. The Foot (Base): The chalice rests on a wide circular base with a conical shoulder, repeating the cup’s decor with large lobed motifs, alternating smooth surfaces and guilloché zones from which stylized water leaves spring. The rim of the base is enhanced by an elegant frieze of pearl beads. The Title Mark (State Guarantee): This is the official Minerva punch, First Title (in a decagonal octagon cartouche). This mark guarantees pure solid silver at 950/1000 (the highest French standard). The Goldsmith’s Mark: Master Goldsmith mark — Engraved in a horizontal diamond cartouche, showing the initials D & T surrounding an Eagle with spread wings (different from the famous Paris sacred art house Demarquet Frères / D&T active in the early 20th century). Period: Early 20th century (circa 1910–1930). The photographs are an integral part of the object description and complete its presentation. Please study them carefully before any commitment.
