Charcoal drawing of Woman with Child, European School, 19th Century

Descriptio Charcoal drawing on paper. Dimensions: 16 x 13 cm (unframed), 25 x 22 cm (framed). The scene depicts a mother leaning over and holding her young son, creating a visually stable triangular composition. The firm lines and economy of means achieve an effect of emotional depth, while the delicately applied chiaroscuro highlights the emotional connection between the figures. The drawing is part of the 19th-century tradition of life study, where maternal themes acquired a strong moral and sentimental symbolism. The work combines serenity of gesture with a light execution, revealing the artist’s mastery in observing the human figure and in evoking maternal love as a universal motif.
