Fine, coherent set of 5 antique volumes from the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade – Gallimard, dedicated to two major British authors: Charles Dickens and Jonathan Swift. The set includes: Charles Dickens * Le Magasin d’antiquités – Barnabé Rudge — no. 163 — 1963, first edition * Nicolas Nickleby – Livres de Noël — no. 186 — 1966, first edition * Souvenirs intimes de David Copperfield – De Grandes Espérances — no. 105 — 1966 printing * Les Papiers posthumes du Pickwick Club – Les Aventures d’Olivier Twist — no. 133 — 1966 printing Jonathan Swift * Œuvres — no. 180 — 1965, first edition, presented, established and annotated edition by Émile Pons, notably including Gulliver’s Travels. The first three editions can be identified by their printing proofs: 25 January 1963 for Le Magasin d’antiquités – Barnabé Rudge, 13 September 1965 for Swift and 15 June 1966 for Nicolas Nickleby – Livres de Noël. Full leather bindings, spines adorned with gold fillets, on Bible paper, all preserved with their original illustrated dust jackets. Very good overall condition. The bindings and gilding are particularly well preserved. The interiors are exceptionally fresh and clean for books of this period. The jackets show some signs, small stains and normal age marks, visible in the photographs. A notably homogeneous set uniting four Dickens volumes and the Works of Swift, with the additional interest of three volumes in first edition of their edition in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
