CHARMING GILT COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF VAJRASATTVA

Ca. 15th - 16th century AD > A gilt copper-alloy figure of Vajrasattva seated in vajraparyankasana on a double-lotus pedestal. He wears a pointed crown, jewellery and flowing scarves, holding a vajra in each hand. Vajrasattva is associated with purification in Vajrayana Buddhism. Meditation upon him and recitation of his mantras are used to acknowledge and purify harmful actions, obscurations and breaches of ritual commitments. His serene, richly adorned appearance expresses the qualities of an awakened being. > For similar see: Koller Auction, Lot 110* - A191AS Asian Art: Himalaya, China - Tuesday, 03.
