Chattanooga, Tennessee. Bank of Chattanooga. 1858 $50. PCGS Currency Very Fine 25. No. 358. Plate A. Representative of a rarely seen Obsolete denomination from Tennessee especially in issued form. This evenly circulated $50 Obsolete issued by the Bank of Chattanooga stands as truly rare opportunity for the collector of Tennessee numismatic material. Organized in 1854. the Bank of Chattanooga later took over the Bank of Memphis in 1858 making it a subsidiary branch as evidenced by a lot from our December 2025 Obsolete Currency Auction (Lot 98245) which features a stamp that states "REDEEMABLE BANK OF MEMPHIS." This example lacks such a stamp, but nonetheless offers fine testament to an institution that seemingly survived the American Civil War and issued some rather handsome notes in visual terms. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Provenance: From the Caine Collection. Haxby & Whitman Plate Note.
