Child of the Light - Newel Hunter

Child of the Light by Newel Hunter Painting 11.0 x 14.0 :: “Child of the Light” utilizes a monochromatic palette dominated by deep blacks and contrasted with lighter grays and whites. It features an abstract organic form with a sense of fluidity and movement as if the paint or ink has reacted unpredictably on the surface. The central shape is dense and elongated with softer feathered edges that diffuse into the surrounding negative space creating a compelling interplay between solid and void. Patches of texture and gradation emphasize a layered depth giving the piece a mysterious almost spectral quality. The use of contrast and texture commands attention effectively drawing the viewer in to explore the nuances within the dark shapes and their softer peripheries. The ambiguity of the form invites personal interpretation allowing the artwork to resonate differently for everyone. The fluidity and spontaneity in the technique reveal a confident handling of medium suggesting a thoughtful embrace of chance and accident in the creative process – a Hunter hallmark.
