CHINA. China - Great Britain. Voyage of the Junk "Keying" White Metal Medal, 1848. NGC MS-62. BHM-2315. By T. Halliday. Diameter: 45mm. Obverse: View of the junk Keying under sail right; Reverse: Legend in 16 lines providing information about the junk and its journey. Struck to commemorate the first Chinese junk--the Keying--to sail from Hong Kong to Great Britain, the voyage lasting 477 days. A beautifully designed medal featuring a large and intricate depiction of the ship, with the figures of three sailors even visible on deck. Quite appealing and desirable in this problem-free state, given the frequent corrosion found on issues of this composition. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Click here for certification details from NGC.
