CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Russo-Chinese Bank. 1 Kuping Tael, 13.1.1899.

Rare 1899 1 Kuping Tael CHINA--FOREIGN BANKS. Russo-Chinese Bank. 1 Kuping Tael, 13.1.1899. P-S506. S/M#O5-10. PMG Very Fine 25. Peking. Among the first series issued by the Bank of denomination in Kuping Taels. An extremely rare 1 Kuping Tael that is rarely offered at public auctions and an attractive type with an appealing 19th-century date. A natural and pleasing note that has seen moderate circulation. One of six notes in the PMG population report to date and a rare and exciting note for the Russian or Foreign Banks in China collector. We sold a similar note in PMG 35 in April 2025 for USD 28,800 (including the Buyer's Premium). Don't be surprised if the present piece succeeds our estimate considerably, as this is one of those notes that just does not appear at public auction, and once acquired, it will no doubt be treasured by the fortuitous collector who is able to be the winning bidder. PMG Comments "Stain, Small Tears." Estimate: $5,000 - $10,000.
