CHINA--MILITARY. Chinese National Pacification Army. 1 Dollar, ND (1912). P-S3814. S/M#C263-1. PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ. These scarce notes were issued in 1915 by Li Lie Jun (1882-1946) in response to the imperial ambitions of Yuan Shi Kai. Yunnan, under Tang Ji Yao, Cai E and Li Lie Jun declared independence on 25th December 1915 and launched military expeditions against Yuan Shi Kai. Yuan suffered losses, leading other southern provinces to declare their independence as well. Yuan, under immense pressure, was forced to abdicate in March 1916. A note from an important event in recent Chinese history. One of only two notes with the coveted EPQ qualifier, making this an extremely attractive item. Estimate: $600 - $900. Provenance: From the William J. Pardee Collection.
