CHINA. Kwangtung. 10 Cash. 1900-1906. - Value: 10 Cash. - Year: 1900-1906. - Inscriptions: Obverse: 光緒元寶・每元當制錢十文・廣東省造. Reverse: KWANG-TUNG · TEN CASH. - Grading: AU58 BN (NGC). Ten Cash coin minted in the Guangdong province during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, between 1900 and 1906. The obverse presents the Chinese character inscription indicating “Guangxu Yuanbao coin,” the value of ten cash, and the issuing authority of Guangdong Province. The reverse shows a vigorous five-clawed imperial dragon coiled around a flaming pearl, surrounded by the English legend “KWANG-TUNG · TEN CASH,” a design characteristic of provincial issues intended to facilitate international trade. The specimen preserves much of its original luster under an attractive brown patina typical of the BN designation, with well-defined relief and minimal wear limited to the highest points of the design, fully in line with AU58 grading. These provincial issues reflect the modernization process of Chinese coinage in the late Qing dynasty and constitute one of the most popular copper series among collectors of imperial Chinese coinage.
