CHINA--REPUBLIC. Lot of (2). 1925 8% The Chinese Government (Skoda) Loan. Bonds for 100 and 1000 Pounds. K-703 and K-705. Extremely Fine. 100 Pounds (1) and 1000 Pounds (1). Signed by Li Si Hao, then Minister of Finance. The turmoil of the 1910s led to the default on the first Skoda Loan, issued in 1911, to purchase naval and military equipment from the Skoda Works in Bohemia and the Monfalcone Shipbuilding Yards in Italy. A deal was made in 1925 between the Minister of Finance, Li Si Hao, and the Italian Bank to finalise a new ten year replacement loan. Investors received 150 pounds for every 100 pounds owed under the original 1911 contract, plus an 8% annual interest. Estimate: $200 - $300.
