Sun Yat-sen Concept Dollar Designed by the Osaka Mint CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, Year 18 (1929). Hangchow Mint. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Unc Details. L&M-93; K-618; KM-Pn102; WS-0137; Chang-CH198; Wenchao-908 (rarity: ★★). Japanese design from Osaka Mint dies. Though displaying a high degree of hairlines as well as the noted scratch, which occurs at the forehead of former Kuomintang leader, this example nevertheless stands as a charming and commendable representative for the emission. Of note for this type, Kann, wanting to obtain official mint details, mentions that he "...wrote to the Director of the Osaka Mint" and that he "...received a prompt and very sweet reply, which culminated in the assertion that the Japanese mint knows nothing about such an essay coin and has no records regarding the same. Yet, the author stands by his grouping and feels certain that 618 is a Japan-made model." Estimate: $15,000 - $30,000. Provenance: From the MC Collection (陳氏家族集藏).
