Late Neolithic period, ca. 2300 - 2000 BC > A Chinese painted pottery jar with a broad rounded body, short neck and two loop handles. Dark geometric bands and hatched panels cover the reddish-buff surface. Majiayao painted pottery developed among farming communities of northwestern China. Jars of various sizes combined practical storage forms with elaborate painted surfaces; examples are also known from graves. Their repeated geometric designs demonstrate a sophisticated ceramic tradition. > > Size: 130mm x 105mm; Weight: 310g > Provenance: Private London Collection since 2022. > >
