Chinese water deer Taxidermy head mount - Hydropotes...

On display is a decorative head mount of a Chinese water deer (Hydropotes inermis), an extraordinary species of deer from East Asia. The water deer differs significantly from most other deer, as it has no antlers. Instead, especially the males carry conspicuous, elongated tusks in the upper jaw, protruding from the sides of the mouth and giving this small deer its characteristic appearance. The present mount impresses with its natural aura and the detailed preservation of the fur. The warm, reddish-brown tones of the head harmonize with the lighter underside and the striking, dark eyes. Especially notable are the clearly visible, curved tusks, which make the water deer a zoological rarity. Chinese water deer originate from China and Korea and prefer to inhabit wetlands, reed zones, and shore landscapes. Due to their unusual anatomy, they hold a special position among the deer family. An attractive collector's item for lovers of zoological specimens, exotic mammals, and extraordinary representatives of the deer family.
