Fraser, The Stirlings of Keir, and Their Family Papers, 1858, p. 550 Keir Catalogue, no. 119 (https://photocollections.courtauld.ac.uk/sec-menu/search/detail/041cf4be-249a-11ee-83f0-ac1f6ba5d150/media/d4c8f645-6bdc-07e3-15f1-3da66f3d2e79) Lady Margaret Livingston was the daughter of Alexander, 2nd Earl of Linlithgow and Lady Mary Douglas, the eldest daughter of the 10th Earl of Angus. She married three times, firstly to Sir Thomas Nicholson of Carnock and after his death to Sir George Stirling of Keir in 1666. Widowed for the second time, she married Sir John Stirling of Keir in 1668. A drawing of this work is included in Fraser's The Stirlings of Keir (published 1858).
