Classic Engagement Ring With a 0.95 ct Old-Cut Diamond in Gold, from

The classic solitaire ring—that is, a ring with a single diamond—was popularized by a design created by the jeweler Tiffany & Co. in 1886. To this day, this style of ring has remained the epitome of the engagement ring: it embodies all the symbolic power one would expect from a piece of jewellery that carries a promise. The solitaire ring presented here was created on our behalf. At its center is a diamond featuring the cut that was standard at the turn of the century—a cut that contemporaries called the “brilliant,” but which we now refer to as the “old European cut diamond.” The stone weighs 0.95 ct and has a light, warm tint (J). It contains a few small natural inclusions that attest to its natural origin: they are not visible without a loupe and do not diminish the stone’s brilliance. In fact, the diamond possesses a very lively fire, which, thanks to its historic cut, sends a profusion of rainbow-colored sparks into the room. We manufactured the ring entirely in Germany. We sourced the gold for the ring and the diamond sustainably from antique pieces of jewellery. Before being set here, the diamond was polished at a diamond cutting workshop in Idar-Oberstein, where the girdle was also faceted. The setting was cast for us in Pforzheim, and here in Berlin, the setting and the diamond were finally united.
