Tourmalines never fail to inspire us with the variety of different colours these minerals can take on. All shades of green, yellow, pink and red, even shades of blue are among the common colours of the tourmaline family. The word tourmaline comes from the Sinhalese "thuramali" (තුරමලි), which denoted colourful gemstones on the island of Ceylon. Major imports of tourmalines are recorded from Ceylon to Europe since the mid-18th century, with the sole trade monopoly initially held by the Dutch East India Company. One raspberry red tourmaline weighing approximately 1.42 carats was chosen as the focal point of this fine rhodium-plated silver ring. Eight small diamonds of very good quality line up around the stone like little stars. The sturdy ring band holds up the ring face, which has polished bars on the side that further reflect the light. The ring was created in Germany in the years around 1975 and found its way to us here in Berlin. A classic cluster ring with a modernist twist.
