Held in a felt lined slipcase, the binding and slipcase are by Michel Fassin of Barchon (Belgium). Full leather binding with embossed title to the spine. Handmade marbled end papers with the same paper used to decorate the slipcase. Both in excellent condition with just a touch of rubbing to the slipcase. One of 450 printed on Ivory paper. Claude Aveline (born Evgen Avtsine, 1901–1992) was a French writer of Russian-Jewish descent, a protégé of Anatole France, and, at 21, reputedly the youngest publisher in France with his own imprint "Chez Claude Aveline." This book is printed in black and blue with woodcut engravings by Valentin Le Campion throughout. Le Campion (1903–1952), born Valentin Bitt in Moscow to a musical family, trained under Vladimir Favorsky at the Vkhutemas before emigrating to Paris in 1927; he is best remembered for his 137 wood engravings for Anatole France's 'Les dieux ont soif' (1946) and for luxury editions of Racine. 130, [6]. pp. 24 x 19 cm
