Claudio Tolomeo - Carta dell’Italia di Tolomeo – Edizione...

Map sheet of Italy inspired by the geographical tradition of Claudius Ptolemy, drawn from the Cosmographia and derived from the manuscript Pluteo 30.3, preserved at the Medicea Laurenziana Library in Florence. The work represents the Italian peninsula according to the language of Ptolemaic cartography: coastline profiles, islands, surrounding seas, Latin toponyms, and a Renaissance geographic setting. The map yields a historical vision of Italy, not modern, in which geography, ancient science, and decoration coexist in an image of strong cultural and ornamental value.
