CLERGUE (Lucien) — 30 Years of Photographs, 1954–1984 - Lot 64

CLERGUE (Lucien) — 30 Years of Photographs, 1954–1984 Paris, Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris – Les Amis du Musée d’Art Moderne, 1984. Square quarto format, approximately 24 × 22 cm, paperback, cover illustrated with a black-and-white photograph, 91 pp., numerous photographic reproductions, mostly full-page, some in color. Catalog of the major Lucien Clergue retrospective held at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris from October 24, 1984, to January 7, 1985, as part of the 1984 Mois de la Photo. Institutional catalogs confirm the date, the page count of 91, and the 1984 Paris edition. This is the first edition of the catalog, tracing thirty years of Lucien Clergue’s creative work, from 1954 to 1984. The book serves as a comprehensive retrospective of his work: landscapes and images of the Camargue, nudes, beaches, water, trees, still lifes, and formal experiments. It is an interesting addition to a photography collection, especially since it documents a major institutional exhibition. A specialized bibliography lists it as the first edition, with 91 pages and numerous full-page photographs, some in color. Copy in good to very good condition. Cover is slightly creased and shows some minor signs of wear, particularly on the back cover; interior is in very fresh condition.
