Art Deco Elephant Wall Coat Hook / Clothes Hanger – Brass and Carved Wood Striking and highly decorative Art Deco wall-mounted coat hook, featuring a large stylised elephant head in brass mounted on a deeply carved dark wooden backplate. The elephant is beautifully modelled, with large ears, tusks and a long upward-curving trunk. The trunk forms the actual hook, making the piece suitable for hanging a coat, hat, scarf or other garment. The combination of the golden brass elephant with the almost black carved wood creates a particularly attractive contrast, characteristic of the exotic influences that were popular during the Art Deco period. The substantial wooden backplate is richly hand-carved with geometric and stylised decorative elements. The construction and visible tool marks on the reverse give the piece a distinctly handcrafted character. A metal hanging fitting is present on the reverse for wall mounting. This unusual object combines functionality with a strong sculptural and decorative presence and makes an attractive addition to an Art Deco, eclectic or maximalist interior. The object shows signs of age and use, including patination, surface wear and irregularities consistent with its age and handcrafted character.
