Colima Pottery Flat Figure with Horned Headdress

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Colima. A standing buff pottery figure in the flattened, slab-like form of the Colima figure type. Broad shoulders taper into long, paddle-shaped arms held away from the body, and short, sturdy legs end in rounded feet. A twisted turban wraps the head and rises into a single forward-curving horn. The face has slit eyes, a projecting nose, and a slight smile, with pierced earlobes at each side and a thick choker tied at the back of the neck. Clusters of raised pellets mark each shoulder. A cord belt holds a loincloth with incised lines, and an incised panel at the back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205662
