Collection of maritime ephemera related to German passenger shipping lines, dating from the early 20th century through the 1970s. The group primarily features materials from Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL) and the East German VEB Deutsche Seereederei (DSR-Lines). Norddeutscher Lloyd material includes a souvenir log booklet titled SOUVENIR LOG NORD DEUTSCHER LLOYD BREMEN with a graphic of passengers on deck, an Abstract of Log for the Lloyd Express steamers Bremen, Europa, and Columbus, and a textured gray folder with the name D. COLUMBUS embossed in gold. Postcards from the 1930s depict the SS Bremen, including examples with shipboard postmarks dated July 21, 1934, and May 14, 1932. One card bears a blue 10pf Deutsches Reich stamp featuring Paul von Hindenburg and a German-American Sea Post cancellation. DSR-Lines material includes a 1972 mailed envelope featuring a large circular cachet reading VEB DEUTSCHE SEEREEDEREI ROSTOCK-WARNEMUNDE-PASSENGER-SERVICE MS VOLKERFREUNDSCHAFT DSR-LINES. The envelope is postmarked DDR SCHIFFSPOST 18-2 72-15 SCHWARZMEER REISEN 1972 MS-VOLKERFREUNDSCHAFT and bears a GDR postage stamp. The reverse side features a return address stamp for Walter Wiech in Nauen, East Germany. Additional items include photographic postcards showing ship interiors and exteriors at sea. A printer mark for GEBR. GARLOFF KG MAGDEBURG is visible on one postcard reverse. Most items are housed in clear protective sleeves. Dimensions: See Desc.
