[COLOMIES (Pierre)]. Historical Essays. Utrecht, Pierre Elzevier, 1692. In-12, black morocco, Jansenist style, interior lace, gilt edges (late 19th-century binding). A work published under a false Elzevirian imprint, containing scholarly anecdotes and biographical notes on various authors such as Vossius, Naudé, Mersenne, Grotius, Malherbe, Peiresc, De Thou, etc. (Willems, no. 2168.) A few rare passages concern books and manuscripts: in one of them, the author mentions an *Instrumentum securitalis* from the time of Emperor Justinian “written on tree bark” and housed in the King’s library. Wet stamp on the title page; bookplate with the undetermined initials CL. A tear on the edge of folio S2 has been restored without any missing material. Slight rubbing on the binding.
