Colours of the Atlas – a unique handmade piece of Berber textile art This special carpet is entirely handwoven in Moroccan Berber/Amazigh tradition, using wool both for the pile and for the underlying structure. The result is a wonderfully soft and characterful wool-on-wool carpet with a pronounced, artistic look. The composition is built from a playful mosaic of geometric shapes, lines and abstract motifs. No two surfaces are exactly the same. It is precisely those irregularities, subtle color differences and small variations in the handiwork that give the rug its authentic character. The multitude of colors makes the piece especially expressive. Terracotta, red, pink, ochre yellow, turquoise, green, cream, black and earth tones come together in a harmonious whole. The warm natural tones alternate with bright colors, making the rug suitable in both a modern and in a bohemian, vintage or eclectic interior. The symbolism Amazigh/Berber carpets are known for their symbolic and personal visual language. Geometric shapes, lines and abstract signs are traditionally used to express themes from daily life and nature, such as protection, femininity, fertility, connectedness, movement and harmony. The exact meaning of a motif can, however, vary by region, community and weaver. In this rug, especially the combination of different geometric shapes and colors gives it its unique, almost painterly appearance. The rug thus feels not only as an interior piece, but more as a handmade piece of art for the floor.
